Outdoor Climbing Camp Through Alpine Endeavors
The “Gunks” are well renowned for their world class climbing and now you can be a part of the “Gunks” climbing community. For over a decade The Inner Wall and Alpine Endeavors have opened their doors to climbers of all abilities. Both companies havecome together again offering beginner to experienced climbers expert instructionin the heart of the Shawangunks.
Climbing is more than just a sport; it is about trust, friendship, problem solving, fitness, coordination, and community. Rock Climbing has a powerful and profound effect that helps reconnect a person to the basic realities in today’s technological world. Climbers learn to push beyond their own limitations encouraging confidence to handle “real world” difficulties more effectively. The Inner Wall has joined Alpine Endeavors to create a series of rock climbing summer camps for both children and adults that are designed to challengeparticipants on multiple levels. Campers will begin at The Inner Wall climbing gym where they will be introduced to movements and basic technical skills. Then the camp will move outdoors to apply their learned skills on the world class cliffs of the Mohonk Preserve and Minnewaska State Park. Alpine Endeavors is an American Mountain Guide Association accredited guide service with professionally trained and certified guides. Camp instructors and guides are AMGA certified as well as Wilderness first aid trained and licensed by New York State.

Age: 6 - 9* July 18 - 20 or August 15-17 $340 9am start
Camp consists of two half days & one full day. Day one and two will be indoors at the Inner Wall in New Paltz. Day three will be outdoors on the rock!

Intro Camps: Age: 10 - Adult July 11-15, or August 1-5 $595/wk 9am - 4pm
Climbing is natural - this does not mean that it always comes naturally, good technique is critical to success. Our instructors break down climbing movements to its critical components and we use enthusiasm and encouragement to help participants succeed. The Introductory Camps focus on the basics of climbing movement and equipment - knots, harnesses, belay device, nomenclature, usage, and techniques.
The ratio of participants to instructors are kept to a low ratio of 4:1 so that all participants receive plenty of individual attention and are able to progress at their own pace.
We'll start off the week going over the fundamentals and climb indoors at the Inner Wall, in New Paltz. The rest of the week will include as much rock climbing as possible, while allowing one day for a hike and some swimming at the beach (only when a life guard is on duty) at Lake Minnewaska. The schedule of activities may fluctuate to take advantage of the weather. Rainy day activities may include; rappelling, hiking, navigation, or indoor climbing.
Intermediate Camps: Age: 10 - Adult July 25-29 or August 8-12 $595/wk 9am - 4pm
Once basic skills such as tying in with the rope, movement and belaying are mastered, climbers are ready to look towards more advanced skills. The Intermediate Climbing Camps are five days long and designed for participants who have participated in our Introduction Climbing Camp, or have five or more days of outside climbing experience under their belt and are interested in learning more.
Skills such as rappelling, tying a variety of knots and hitches, advanced movements like jamming and overhangs are taught in this program. Intermediate camp focuses on pushing participants past their limits to master building-block skills and techniques.
All five days are spent outside where new skills can be applied. The week will include as much rock climbing as possible, but will allow one day for a hike and some swimming at the beach (only when a life guard is on duty) at Lake Minnewaska. The actual schedule of activities may fluctuate to take advantage of the weather. Rainy day activities may include; rappelling, hiking, navigation, or indoor climbing.
Multi-Pitch Seminar: Age: 12 - Adult July 21 - 22 or August 18 - 19 $395 9am - 4pm
Once you're comfortable with the basic and intermediate skills, it's time to take things to a new level with multi-pitch climbs.
The Multi-Pitch Seminars are two days long and designed for participants who have participated in our Intermediate Climbing Camp, or have ten or more days of outside climbing experience under their belt and are interested in learning more.
Skills like lead belaying, seconding a climb, multi-pitch rappelling, tying a variety of knots and hitches, belay station management, and advanced movement skills are taught in this program.
